CHRIS STASSY ‘U Know Me’: First Tech House Single Under New Name

Dopamine Machine Records · August 27, 2026

When Niels Christian Steenbergen announced last week that he was retiring the Chris Stussy name in favor of CHRIS STASSY, house music had questions. The change arrived with no explanatory essay — just an Instagram post, a one-liner ("one letter, same mind"), and a release date: August 28th. That date lands today, and with it comes 'U Know Me' featuring Marz Fay — the first piece of music to carry the CHRIS STASSY credit, out now via CSS on the same night he steps onto the Arc Stage at Creamfields 2026 in Daresbury, Cheshire.

The Track: Tech House That Makes Its Own Case

The title is deliberate. STASSY isn't asking for patience from a skeptical fanbase; he's making an argument that the music is the continuity. Built on a shuffling low-end groove with a tactile, club-focused arrangement, 'U Know Me' sits squarely in the rolling, functional tech house that made Steenbergen's reputation over 16 years under his previous alias. Marz Fay's vocal contribution — warm, understated, woven into the mid-range rather than sitting above it — keeps the track firmly in after-hours territory. This is not a reinvention. It is, as the title suggests, exactly who you already know.

The release lands via CSS, Steenbergen's own imprint, on Beatport and streaming services. His Up The Stuss label and USS event series retain their original names unchanged — only the artist credit is new.

The Name Change: What We Know

Steenbergen has not offered a formal explanation for the rebrand. Fan speculation has pointed toward the phonetic similarity between Chris Stussy and Stüssy, the American streetwear brand — a trademark pressure scenario that would explain why the associated label and event brands, stylized differently, weren't part of the change. The artist kept the narrative focused on continuity rather than conflict, commenting only that "the music, the energy, the connection with the people in the room — none of that changes."

What's notable is the execution. He threw two free N.A.M.E. parties in Birmingham and Amsterdam in the days before the rebrand went public — a direct thank-you to the community that's followed his work. Launching the new alias at Creamfields, one of the UK's largest dance festivals, in the same week as the first release is a deliberate opening statement. The two moments — the track and the live debut — land simultaneously.

Creamfields 2026: The Arc Stage Debut

Creamfields runs August 27–30 across the August Bank Holiday weekend. The Arc Stage — an open-air structure with wraparound LED screens — is where CHRIS STASSY performs on the 28th, debuting the new credit in front of a festival-scale crowd. The stage also hosts Disclosure (Live) and Chloé Caillet this weekend, placing STASSY alongside artists who sit at the crossover between underground credibility and mainstream exposure. For an artist rebranding around the argument of artistic consistency, the context works in his favor.

What This Means for the Underground

Artist rebranding in underground tech house is rare enough to be genuinely disruptive. Most rebrand decisions signal a creative pivot — a producer separating club work from something more experimental, or an artist stepping back from a style they've grown out of. CHRIS STASSY appears to be the opposite case: a forced adjustment that the artist is navigating with as little friction as possible.

The practical challenges are real. Streaming profiles, discography links, playlist placements, and years of accumulated search equity don't transfer automatically with a name change. Steenbergen is betting that a 16-year audience knows the music well enough to follow the credit wherever it lands. 'U Know Me' is that bet made audible — a track that functions, first and foremost, as a floor tool, but carries the weight of a statement as well.
