Day Trip Festival NorCal 2026: Gordo, Cloonee & After Midnight Lead San Jose Debut

Dopamine Machine Records · August 10, 2026

Insomniac's Day Trip Festival has been a reliable fixture in Southern California's house and techno calendar for years — the kind of event that draws serious crowds without trying to be everything for everyone. On October 17–18, 2026, the series makes its Northern California debut at Discovery Meadow in San Jose, in partnership with NPU Live. The inaugural NorCal lineup makes a strong case for why the expansion was worth attempting.

Saturday's Tech House Logic: Gordo B2B Vintage Culture

The first night of Day Trip NorCal opens with one of the more interesting booking calls on either day: Gordo B2B Vintage Culture. Both artists operate in the territory between club-focused tech house and the larger festival spaces where those records get tested at scale. Gordo's sets have been moving steadily toward more layered, groove-driven material; Vintage Culture has always known how to read a room at peak time without losing the low-end detail that makes a back-to-back worth actually watching rather than just being present for.

The real question in any B2B is not whether both artists are individually good — that's established — but whether they find something together that neither would have reached alone. Saturday night gives them the room to find out. The pairings that work at this level usually do because one artist is willing to be uncomfortable at the handoff, to push the other somewhere surprising. Gordo and Vintage Culture have the catalogs to do that if they choose to.

Eli Brown, playing a sunset set on Day One, is the scheduling decision that tells you something about how Insomniac and NPU Live are reading the crowd. A sunset set from Brown means the night starts warm and groove-forward before the headliner B2B takes the room into later-night territory. That's a smarter arc than leading with the biggest name and building down. Rounding out Saturday are Wax Motif, Script, JLittle, and Lefty — a support line that keeps the energy in the right lane without overcomplicating the bill.

Sunday's Stronger Hand: Cloonee and After Midnight

Day Two carries the more loaded bill. Cloonee headlining Sunday is a statement booking on its own — his "Good Girl" collaboration with Prospa has been one of the most-played tech house records of the summer, and his debut album is confirmed for October 6, meaning the San Jose date lands directly in the window of peak album-cycle attention. That timing didn't happen by accident, and it means Cloonee's set should carry material most people haven't heard live yet.

Below Cloonee on Sunday sits After Midnight, the collaborative project from Matroda and San Pacho. Their AF:MN EP arrived in late July — a seven-track debut that covers peak-time tech house, Latin-inflected groove, and deeper after-hours territory across its run. The project debuted live at Coachella's Do LaB stage and has kept its live calendar selective: HARD Summer, Club Space Miami, ARC Music Festival, and now Day Trip NorCal form a short run designed to put the music in front of rooms with the capacity to receive it properly. The San Jose date is one of very few chances to see After Midnight live on the West Coast this fall.

Also on Sunday: Fallon, Eve Lauren, Sage, and a special guest still to be announced. A TBA this late on a lineup usually signals something the promoters consider worth holding back rather than something they haven't confirmed yet. Whether it lands as a name in the same tier as the confirmed headliners will determine whether Sunday's bill holds together on its own terms or becomes a lineup where two names carry the rest of the weight.

Why NorCal and Why Now

Day Trip's Southern California editions have consistently drawn from both the Bay Area and the LA market, which made a NorCal expansion a logical next step for a series that's already demonstrated an audience exists for this kind of event in the region. The partnership with NPU Live suggests Insomniac was looking for a local promoter with existing market knowledge rather than simply planting a flag in a new city — that approach typically produces better outcomes for events trying to establish themselves somewhere new, because the ground-level promotion reflects actual community knowledge rather than a scaled-down version of what works in Los Angeles.

Discovery Meadow is an outdoor venue in downtown San Jose with enough capacity for an event at this scale without dwarfing the music. The open-air format aligns with how Day Trip events are designed to feel — present rather than overwhelming, outdoor daylight transitioning into night rather than the sensory compression of a warehouse setup. For a festival positioning itself as a house and techno event, the venue choice reinforces the tone before the first act plays a bar.

What This Lineup Signals for the Fall Calendar

Day Trip NorCal 2026 has two things working in its favor that don't always line up in an inaugural edition: a top-of-bill that's genuinely worth the trip on both nights, and a venue that doesn't undermine the music before it starts. Whether the first NorCal edition builds the loyalty that Day Trip SoCal has accumulated over multiple runs is a separate question — one that depends on how the event actually feels on the ground as much as on who's booked. But the lineup gives it a real chance. Tickets for the 18+ event, with GA, VIP, and Stage Access options, are available now at NorCal.DayTripFest.com.
